To get one's self together

It's stupid to pretend that we don't know

That the time and the pain and the heartache don't show

When the future is uncertain and the getting won't go

It's stupid to pretend that we don't know how to make ourselves happy

or to make ourselves grow

The human race is the only species of animal born with the capacity

to live free and without grief or qualm

but decides, instead of inheriting his birthright, to spend energy he doesn't posses

making himself miserable

It's stupid to put yourself out making sure that everyone knows how hard your

life is turning out to be

'Just trucking on like we all do'

the least convincing plea for assistance

'I've been better'

the all quote, demanding the acknowledgement of the fruitlessness of your labors

Can I just say, as a representative of Generation X

I know that the road ahead won't be the same my mother trod

The street signs have changed

and every word means something new

but I can't get this message through

There will be nothing I can do

to make my new life one for the history books

Because I

am getting myself

together

A plump rose among drab, hanging lilies

A queen will rise up among them and no one saw it coming
