I fell asleep, completely alone

And before me arose an ocean of riches

And as I began to walk through them

clutching my new found riches to my chest

I looked up at the fiery sunrise

and nearly cried at its beauty

golden chalices, royal necklaces, floral gowns

swords with golden handles, tiaras, and pearls

So many pretty things surrounding me... but then

I looked up...

And gazed upon a child... a child full of majesty

Sapphire-like eyes gazed back at me

And I bowed... for the little prince

Seeing his porcelain skin and ruby encrusted robe

a golden crown atop his head and sitting

upon a pile of gold

and he reached out to me

with tears in his eyes

and they slipped down his cheeks

like diamonds in the night

My heart reached out and I pulled him into my arms

I caressed his chocolate locks and he...

slept against my chest

Then the thieves came...so many unruly guests

Taking the little Prince's riches

How could they?!

Didn't they see what I had?

Something more precious than all the gold in the world

this child

It didn't matter to them... and neither did it to me

...because I had him... and I can walk away now

with not even a stone...and be happy

with no regets.......and I did

The sky grew dark and the sun went down

And then I awoke

I looked around

no man, no husband, no boyfriend...no family

my poorness seeped back into my bones

a tiny room with no windows and chipped walls

no diamonds, no rubies, no emeralds,no gold...

I turned on my side

the springs creeking under the little mattress

and I carressed my stomach which was swelling with life

a mother's smile graced my features

My little Prince
