Absence

Realizing the world isn't so nice

Is what changed my perspective on life

Having a biological mom that doesn't care for you

Forced a child to be neglected at the age of two

Having a biological mom that wanted to see you fail

Forced a child’s heart to become stale

But my father took on the single parent role

And taught me the importance of being in control

Lacking that maternal connection caused a rift in my childhood

But his guidance taught me the importance of seeing all that is good

Lacking the confidence to push through caused my drive to slow

But his guidance taught me that I need to grow

This missing puzzle piece made me feel destroyed

But when I got my step-mom, she filled that void

Lacking a mom didn't make me grow up

But knowing that she didn't care caused my childhood to blow up

My parents did a good job of trying to restore the innocence that was lost

And that is what kept my heart soft

Now at 18, I don't miss a thing

The people that stand behind me are what make my heart sing
