America the One I know

I pledge allegiance

But to a flag?

If we’re indivisible

Why do I feel invisible?

For which I stand

I will be told to sit

1 million kids

But only the 1% matters

1 million times more wealth

1 million less problems

I have to ask sadly

May I have a dollar?

Ms. Sally

Mae, I?

Why do I?

Have to pay

To earn

yet Pray

to learn

Face it

If my nation is

Under God

Why is God thrown

Under the bus?

Where I stand

But I stand

Because my choice

Is to give my seat

To a woman and child

So my actions

Are my voice

You ask me to say

Can I see

By the dawn’s early light

But all I see

Is neon signs

The signs don’t

Illuminate

They cast shade

So my shade

Is my caste

The broad stipes

Are now

The broadway lights

The bright stars

Associate with

Nice cars

Why not make it

Cool to have

Knowledge

And lame to

Be ignorant

Stop watching from

Old ramparts

And build anew

The problem

Isn’t the split

It’s the lack

Of unison

We are millions

But we need

To be 1
