Army Green

Green is what he sees when he closes his eyes

It brings him back to various memories

He leans back and draws out a deep heavy sigh

Letting the dog tag take him back in history

Rolling the steel between his finger and thumb

He is left to wonder why he feels so numb

Green is the color he sees when he reminisces

Green was the color of the summer grass warm beneath his back

When the most to worry about was grade school kisses

Or getting shot in a Nerf gun attack

The color of trees leaves and a lime kool-aid pitcher

Green was the color of the army uniform

The color so many men and women died in daily

As family members were left to remember and mourn

Their loved ones who died protecting our country

Green was the color of life in its best forms

Burning hatred is what he saw when he went to war

Now he is home and physically okay

The lone dog tag 'round his neck represents his baggage

He sits with his wife watching his young children play

It is on the inside he is damaged
