Barrio Blues
The cat is sitting in a cardboard box
Lulling a fly into a false sense of security
The neighbors downstairs moved out
And all the roaches moved up into ours
The public trans out here is a frotterist paradise
Can’t guard against grope whilst grinding
Sometimes they take up two seats with fat and cargo
Some possess a stench bad enough to clear a whole side
The college is community, defunding itself
The bright bulbs are few and far between
The teachers are bitter, the administrators
get raises for doing whatever it is they do
Its 102 degrees outside here today
A dog walking route for extra cash
Sweltering desert of blacktop and concrete
Everyone wants to hang themselves
A guy hops the fence every tuesday morning
Searching for cans before the trucks come
I don’t know the names of my neighbors on the right
But I can hear them fucking through the walls
The lot next to us is empty and full of weeds
Once a couple came with a dog and a pigmy goat
And made it useful, beautiful for an afternoon
The owners replaced the lock and we never saw them again
I got chased down the street on the way to my apartment
Screaming at me through toothless gums, in thigh high boots
An elderly hooker in front of the low income old folks home
I was glad she had a bum leg
