Because I could not stop for Sleep - Parody of Emily Dickenson's "Because I Could Not Stop for Death"

Because I could not stop for Sleep

Sleep eventually caught up to me

My Blanket held but just Myself

For all eternity

I softly breathed and knew no more

For I had put away

My labor and my leisure too

Ceasing all activity

I dreamed of school where children strove

To pass their classes - before the term

I dreamed of Fields of golden corn

I dreamed of the Setting Sun

Or maybe of the Silver Moon

The night grew harsh and cold

For only Gossamer, my Gown -

The threads already worn

Dreams revolved around a Cloud that seemed

A figment in the sky

The edges scarcely visible

The body in the sky

Since then - ‘tis Hours - and yet

Feels longer than a Day

If only I could have stayed

For all eternity
