He picks at his finger nails nervously,

He glances up from his feet to his mother,

And locks his jaw with anticipation.

 

She shifts her stance to her other hip, 

She twirls a lock of hair with her finger,

She glances away, then bites her lip,

And clasps her hands behind her back.
