Better off

when you find yourself on the precipice

imagining a romanticized image

of the stars dimming and the earth stopping its spinning

you are quite wrong my love

in thinking that because you lose conciousness

only your world will stop

your parents who once had a bright light in their lives

will cease to see beauty in the night on October 25

They will stare at the night sky and curse it

becasue without you all they see is inky black

your friends, boyfriend, girlfriend, will fall to their knees

and stare at blank walls because as they learn of the news

time will stop and for a moment

it's not true, there's no possible way, it can't be

and yes the stars will dim in their eyes

and the world stops on its axis

but not just for you

for them too.
