Black Girl Magic !!!
Momma always said I’m lovely.
Little white girls tell me I’m ugly.
Crying everyday because I didn’t know my truth,
That was the worst part of my youth.
Stereotypes about me and my people,
Why can’t we ever be equal.
They think they know everything,
That I want to eat some watermelon with my chicken wing.
My skin may be lighter than some.
I’m still African American, that don’t mean nothin’.
Now that I’m in my teenage years,
I decide to let go of my fears.
Starting with what people believe about me.
Then cutting off my Dark and Lovely.
I felt set free.
Straightening my hair was to make me believe I was beautiful like that.
When I saw my big curly Afro,
I fell deeply in love with that.
I’d rather smell like a tropical mix,
Than a flat iron scent that you can’t fix.
Back then they said my ancestors were a bunch of monkeys.
Well I think my ancestors were too smart for this country.
We built this country.
White people claim it like they did it, isn’t that funny.
They take my history from me.
But teaches us about Christopher Columbus discovering America,
Whoopee !!!!
It’s okay though.
My smarts will make me a lot of dough.
I’m doing everything they said we can’t.
They thought my brain was the size of a
ant.
They don’t want to see me win.
I’m still going to prove them wrong,
Therefore, college is where I’ll fit in.
They hate to see a successful black woman get a college degree.
Well watch me, I’ll do it proudly !!!
I’m proud of my caramel skin.
I’m proud of my big curly hair that leaves me with a grin.
I’m proud of my history.
I’m proud of my victory.
I’m proud of my ancestors.
I’m proud of my professors.
I’m proud of Dr. King who had a dream.
I’m proud of Malcom X who was passionate to the extreme.
I’m proud of my Momma, a black woman with a cause.
I’m proud of my Daddy, a black man who deserves an applause.
I’m proud of my outside voice that some may call ratchet.
And most of all I’m proud of MY BLACK GIRL MAGIC !!!!!!
