blind

always.

a word that evokes hope and joy

criticized.

words that never seem to fade

me.

                               pale complexion

                               5’1” stature

                               unfortunate surname.

             the opposition chose their own

                               prey.

   no remark has scarred

                                                          only ever bruised

but the cut i did recieve

                                                                was a nearly fatal blow

your words struck me like knives

and my head spun as i heard him utter

       "your religion has blinded you.”

months I lie ill

       revisiting your words to understand

                                                               why you must say so.

i was appalled by your assertive declaration.

     your claim had no footing

                                                                              yet i found myself slipping

tripping over the words you had laid.

your limited perception of my faith

was not the first of its kind

                     your blatant disrespect

     left a foul taste

though my ideological being is not a rarity

                          you were overcome by ignorance

                                                                                      and you became blind.
