the challenges I face

Being a young black women with big dreams is the challenge I face

Having a mother without a job and depending on drugs is the challenge I face

Staring in the mirror wondering do I really have what it takes to become a doctor is the challenge I face

Deciding at a young age, making it in this world isn’t a option is the challenge I face

Crying myself to sleep at night is the challenge I face

Seeing pregnant teens decide to drop out instead of get their degree is the challenge I face

Getting straight A’s is the challenge I face

Ms. Winfrey once said “as you become more clear about who you really are, you’ll be better able to decide what is best for you the first time around”

So as I go through all this challenges I decide to let them flow away

Instead of them being challenges they become apart of me

These challenges created me

The challenge I face is not facing them head on

The challenge I face is being scared of being great

I’m not perfect but the challenge I face is becoming the best person I can become

The challenge I face is not waking up appreciating what I have

The challenge I face is not recognizing my father for his hard work

The challenge I face is saying it’s okay not to have a “mother”

The challenges I face is recognizing my happiness

But these are the challenges I face
