City of the Cutthroat

I am most happiest
When I find myself in the middle of the city
Surrounded by skyscraper walls
Fuel emission cars and honking horns

Posters full of Trademarks
Sales to lure me inside of stores
That I can look in but don't have enough money to buy

Speckled sidewalks that grace my feet
The vibrations underneath, like a spasm in my body

Shuffling cards of shuffling people
Kings and Queens, Jacks, and a few broken hearts
Not to mention the Jokers
But we all learn to keep our Poker face

Times Square inside of a square root
With forbidden fruit of stars much like you

A city of dreams
To keep me wondering of how far is up
Slum villages to remind me how close I'm down

A 21st century scramble
But you can't buy me here!

Uncertain for tomorrow
Another dollar for another day
But you won't catch me selling my soul
In the belly of the beast

I may stumble on uneven pavement
Lose my grip on an un-railed subway stair
But my spirit will forever stretch as far as Central Park
From one side to the other

I belong here
And there's enough space that we all can claim a piece of the Big Apple

I Love the Hustle, the Fight for Opportunity
The unseen talent being seen on the street
The unknown and unexpected
The Invisible Man...

Bridges that will take you to the other side
And taxis that charge too much to get you there
Another hike from the MTA, but so be it
The reward of a ride and some random expression of entertainment on the train is enough to keep me paying

Who knows?
It might just be my lucky day and I find a crisp 1 dollar bill as soon as I walk into Starbucks

Bottom Line
I feel alive here

A city full of poetry in motion
A constant rhythm of each persons heartbeat playing under an urban beat
This is New York...This is where I'm happy to be
