Consciously Lost in Subconcious

The darkness wraps me in its cold embrace

As I linger further into this foreign place

In the back of my mind

Where all things become lost

Where my memories flood

And the doors are padlocked

Closed to the eyes of the innocent

I won’t open the door

Due to fear of regret

And I won’t open the door

Due to fear of what’s next

Because these thoughts are unknown

And have been cast away

 Into the eerie entrails

Of this darkened place

Because I’m only human

And our greatest terror

Are the enigmatic things

Or what looks back at us,

When we look in the mirror

Because a reflection

Doesn’t show what’s inside

It only proves that saying,

About judging a book by its cover

We should open our hearts

And let who we are be discovered
