This Day and Age

Today I sat and thought and thought

About the past

What our world forgot.

The simple values held so dear

They are not here-

Not this year.

We waste our days striving and reaching

But for what?

What are we teaching?

Since when is the level of someone’s IQ

More important than the person

More important than you

Our relationships with others are rarely true

Everyone lies

Corruption ensues

Though it is good to say what you feel

Very few do

Miscommunication still

You should stop and ask someone about their day

Shocked they might be

Not knowing what to say

Genuine care is so rare and strange

Exhibit this-

Things may change

Be kind to everyone you meet

Sitting alone

Walking on the street

Maybe one day we can return

To forgotten compassion

And constant concern
