The Elements of Me

Tearing apart the two elements of me,

The portions I can and cannot see.

One has Beauty beyond measure;

The other is much less than a treasure

However, from where did the hideous come?

I had never seen it until I was undone.

The loveliness has been here before,

I have often heard it keeping score

The stunning must have hid horrible the away;

Maybe now that it is gone, the beautiful will stay.

But wait, I must still be here since the repugnance I still see,

That must mean the imperfection is me…

However, If the attractive is not I, then from where did it come?

I had known it long before it was undone.

Maybe it is a part of me as well;

Maybe it was just the only part as far as I could tell.

Unsightliness and Brilliance are a part of us all,

We just might not see them until we fall.

Maybe that is why it was such a task,

Because I could not see through my own mask…
