frog prince

Fate is a mystery.

It controls history,

It's made whole nations kin,

Prevented and caused sin,

And yet it is unseen.

Fate uses anything

And everything

To achieve it's purpose

Regardless of trespass

On a person’s planned life.

Thus, fate rudely invades

The life of a proud prince.

It introduces king

And enchanter who brings

A cure for the prince’s pride.

The monarch had long searched

For a way to besmirch

His one and only heir;

As a person was rare

Who had faith in the prince.

The problem’s solution

Was a sorcerer’s spell.

The king informed the mage

A gold ball was the wage

If he could change the prince.

The sorcerer agreed.

A potion was received

That was emerald green.

The spell was slipped unseen

Into the royal meal.

Then the prince’s mouth widened And his fair skin darkenedTo the same emerald. He shrank and unsettled The mutation’s viewers. The king after hearing Of his son’s form, weeping Commanded that the brew Be reversed for the dueTreasure to be given. The sorcerer enragedThreatened the frightened, changed Frog prince. To save his son, The monarch had him run To their ally’s kingdom. Before parting, the king Told his son of a spring On her royal estate That knew of his escapeFrom his cursed appearance. The frog prince travelled there, Came upon the queen fair, And voiced his tragic plight. She declared that the night Advised men through the pond.He decided to wait At that pond for his fate. When midnight, at last, came, The water showed no shame On the prince’s old face.

The image disappeared

And the queen’s bed prepared

Thrice materialized.

Soon, the frog prince realized

That three nights must be spent

On the queen’s bed to stop

The cursed prince of hops.

The prince pleaded to the queen

But she refused to clean

Her bed for the frog prince.

The frog prince once prideful

Was now pitiful.

The sorcerer’s potion

Was not a cursed motion.

It achieved it's purpose:

the frog prince was cured.
