The Future of a Loser

School, for me, will always be a joke.

I've always been a good kid:

I don't smoke, I don't do coke.

But where has that gotten me?

Utterly nowhere.

Heck, I don't even swear but it's the nice guy who always gets ensnared.

"Make sure you have good grades,"

"Get an amazing ACT score,"

"Manage not to get AIDS,"

"Whatever you do, don't be a whore."

Oh and don't forget:

"You better know exactly what you want to do with your life or else you're screwed."

See, even after those four years of hell that we have ensued,

We're expected to continue and select a career right now.

Wait.

Life changing decisions right after high school?

That is absurd.

These people expect me to make a choice like this but hello-

I'm pretty sure I was raising my hand to go to the bathroom like a month ago!

That is so insane to me.

And that's something "the state" just can't seem to see.

Quit basing my entire future on some hasty decisions and standardized tests.

You know I will not do my best and your requests make me so distressed.

I'm only 17.

There's only so much I can take.

And remember, you're putting so much at stake.

So hear our cry, oh "great" teachers, statesmen, and leaders.

Because I'm tired and I'm weary.

Sincerely, one of your best students fearing her shaky future,

Soon to be nothing but a loser.
