Giant Jackie
Once upon a time,
There was a tall girl
The height of a bear,
But not in her world.
This girl was a giant
And so was her mum
Whose full height was quite
An impressive sum.
Mum said to Jackie
with quiver in voice,
“It’s time to sell Milky.
We have no choice.
“Trade for at least
Ten pieces of gold.
We’ll both starve to death
If this cow isn’t sold.”
Jackie and Milky
Jogged off the mart.
What Jackie brought back
Didn’t seem smart.
Instead of ten gold
Were five magic beans
For which Jackie was
Especially keen.
Mum cried the whole night
But Jackie felt good.
She planted her beans
In the garden for food.
The next morning both
Were amazed to find
A bean stalk so thick
Even they might climb.
Young Jackie was brave.
She scaled the huge stalk
And was so surprised
She could barely talk.
The landscape was little
With people so small.
She saw through the bushes
Where she hid from them all.
She spotted a mansion
Much bigger than the rest.
She rushed through its doors,
An unwelcome guest.
The servants were startled,
Their old master petrified.
He had no time for packing
Before he could hide.
The giant Jackie was hungry.
She took a live goose
And left Master Jack
With his gold and jewels.
Jackie tromped through the bushes.
She hopped down the stalk.
With the goose under her arm,
She cut down the stalk.
Her Mum was still crying
But the goose eased her dread.
She boiled some water,
Found an ax for its head.
She said “If times were better,
This goose could stay.
If we weren’t so hungry,
I would use her to lay.”
Soon as she spoke this,
The goose kicked its leg,
It fluffed up its feathers,
And dropped a gold egg.
Giant Jackie and her Mum
Were shocked by the hen.
But they knew they would never
Be hungry ever again.
