Goodbye John

She fell for a boy that knew of heartbreak too well
She had yearned for such things that created this shell
She had noticed the shell of the boy
But only saw his usual ploy
He was made of charm and cunning and wit
And with very few words she knew shed been hit
She was intrigued from the start at this newly seasoned Texan
And was overjoyed when he was the first textin'
She knew he was trouble with his sleepy smirk
But she couldn't help but be drawn to this smooth talking jerk
They moved swiftly within a matter of days
He made her feel adventurous in innumerable ways
But alas the boy inevitably
Rejected the girl quicker than you'd believe
And with weeks came their roller coaster love affair
It may not have been love but something was in the air
And now the boy leaves as the girl suffers through
All of the consequences from this troublesome two
He asks for a goodbye
Yet she quickly denies
For she knows she couldn't stand that last look in his eyes
Because for the boy
She was no more than a toy
And the girl caught feelings too soon
The only foreseeable way
To end their last day
Is to be the first one to turn away
And though it breaks her heart she knows she'll be strong
As she reminds herself of all they did wrong
All for the sake
Of one more mistake
That made the list more long
So this is her goodbye
That she couldn't face
As he moves on to a world with faster pace
And leaves the small town girl behind
And though this poem is long
She knows every word belongs
In order to finish her goodbye song
