TO THE GREAT WHITE SAILOR

Great white sailor of the deep night sea

Many a time I wish I could be

By your side to sail, to shout ahoy

And to gather the ethereal joy.

In the silvery hours of splendor

Of each moonlit, and mystic wonder

Would I be able to make a tour

In every land where the moon rays moor?

Could I be in a mead when it’s spring

Where I can hear a nightingale sing,

Where gurgling brooks borrow your silver

And share it with the flowing  water?

Take me in a full moon summer’s night

To the love’s mausoleum in white

Where lofty trees are keeping vigil

Around  Jamuna’s  treasured Mahal

Or let me float with the autumn  clouds

When trees shed their leaves in the woods

To watch the starry heavens above

Where yesterday’s seared  leaves now thrive.

When it is winter and snowflakes fall

Could I be on a bucolic hill

Where blue smoke rises from little huts

And Christmas bells chime their sweetest notes?

Great white sailor of the deep night sea

Though I yearn, I know I cannot be

With you, for I am a common man

Who could but dream, and dream alone…..
