Growing Up

Fri, 03/29/2019 - 18:50 -- Comeeta

When our biggest concern isn’t about

Fighting over the hula-hoop at lunchtime,

we’ve grown up

When our days are no longer filled with recess and giggles

we’ve grown up

When our eyebrows start to furrow

we’ve changed

For better or worse

Time never comes back.

When we question— who am I?— we’re growing up

When the tears starts gushing out for no rational reason

we’re growing up

When we don’t fit into our parent’s hug anymore

we’re growing up

When we smile for new reasons and strive for new goals,

we’re growing up

Now, I can hug them into my chest

Promising them

our new life isn’t far away

Because I’m growing up

I can change the world.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
Our world
