The Heart Goes Last

He walks into the room
And kicks his shoes to the side
His favorite glass of whiskey is accompanying him tonight
Because she's miles away
Because he made a mistake
And we'll all rue the day
When they have to pay
He's blues on vinyl
And she's a record playing liar
With a troubled tricky past
And a few bridges soaked is gas
They are flames of different heat
Think they'll always have us beat
And as her cigarette hits the dry grass
The heart goes last
There's a bump in the road
And I've never hated the stork
And they're both crazy reckless
Glass and smoke and corks
It's unnerving and there are options
Just a few more to go
Why give the bird black captions
And a headboard carved of stone
Why give the past another
Just to never let it go
Why deprive our future leaders
Just to always return to home
As they yell over another
And the bump deflates a lover
It's because we're from a different class
The heart goes last
He is from a different time
And his color shows the line
And family is an end resort
Of secrets left behind
She's fair and blue and gold
And the leather cracks are old
And the bruises branded in my tears
Have yet to break my bone
His songs are never in the books
Cause she gets all the fame
And kill yourselves taking closer looks
Cause it'll happen all again
Its promises in blood red roses
Hidden in the stains
The days are short and cold up north
The heart goes last again
