I am...

I am angry

I am mad

I am disappointed

and most of all I am sad

We live in a world clouded by judgement

However, we give off a hopelessly false illusion

Why keep up the lie?

When we know that our society has suffered a major contusion

I am black

I am white

I have loved

I have suffered through many plights

We were once encouraged to have a dream

We were once encouraged to be the change we want to see

Yet answer me this,

Then why do people want to kill me?

I might at heart be many identities, many faces

However, I am painted black

As black as the Arabian nights

As dark as the hearts which of whom many lack

We hear on the news of the many who die

Shot point blank, oozing innocence through their veins

We hear the cries of mother, fathers, and children

The same cries of our ancestors binded with chains

We claim to have moved on

However, we are at a stand still

We may be monkey’s to others

But we stand proud, strong, and full of thrill

It is too heavy to burden, anger

So we forgive

But never forget

We hold those whom we love and live

We pray that others continue their dreams

That others continue to be the change they want to see

But when will we all love one another?

We will continue to wait, continue to fight till we are free...
