I Am

Location

Society perceives me as a young black girl; one who is shy and afraid of the world Afraid to be heard, because I'm clearly not seen, For hatred in the world has still not deceased.
Society perceives me as a young black girl; who gives herself up in times of turmoil
No real education to back me up, No common sense for its all on bad luck.
Society perceives me as a young black girl, where I don't exist in their small world
But they have forgotten that this day will end; I'll rise up to success and my future will begin.
I am, who God says that I am.
I'm astute and I'm proud and I never give in.
My mind never weakens, my intentions they won’t defeat.
My future is radiant and my heart still beats.
Still beats for my loved ones, Still beats for my friends, Still beats for the one that I can't let go Still beats for myself cause without it I'm cold
Everyday I'm growing greater and no longer afraid.
I am, who God says that I am I am beautiful, young, and my mind never bends.
No man in this Earth could alter my ways, for this young black girl has transformed the human race
I am, who God says that I am.
I am Strong, Powerful, and today I win.
Forever refined and cheerful to say, "This young black girl will no longer be phased."
I am me and I am free
