I am a Natural Blonde

My name is Emily Rose Marrazzo

I am 18 Years old

And as far as any of you are concerned, I am a natural blonde.

I’m a senior at huntley high school,

and despite what anyone else says, I refuse to grow up.

My favorite candies are twizzlers

My favorite coffee at Starbucks is a salted caramel mocha

and my favorite color is sparkle.

I’ve only been on 3 vacations in my lifetime

The last was about 3 years ago, my family and I drove to South Carolina

Where I was stung by a jellyfish

I hate jellyfish now

I also hate snakes and writing with unsharpened pencils

I’m terrified of eyes, therefore I’m an ommetoahobic

I like musicals

I’m actress

I’m a decent singer

I’m a playwrite

I’m a performer

I’m a friend

I’m a girlfriend

I’m short

I’m annoying

I’m melodramatic

I’m involved

I’m anxious

I’m ambitious

I’m bisexual.

And it’s amazing that with the society we live in today,

Out of all the facts I just gave you about myself,

That last one is the only one you’ll remember.

If you’re confused, which I doubt you are- Let me repeat.

I’m bisexual.

Not gay. Not straight. But that sexuality in between we like to believe doesn’t exist.

To those of you questioning my validity

To those of you who refuse to believe what I have just told you-

I invite you to take a walk back with me.

Take a walk back to 7th grade when I realized I wasn’t like the other kids.

When I realized the way I saw people and the way my friends saw people

Didn’t quite measure up

Take a walk back with me to 2 years ago, and recount the hours of sleep

lost nights worrying endlessly about who I was... who I am

Take a walk back with me to Junior year

When I fell flat on my face out of the closet to my mother

After learning she had read my diary.

And take a walk back with me to a few days ago

As I sat in drunken prayer at 3 am on a Saturday morning

Hoping that when I started coming out to friends

They would accept me.

Now I dare you, please- question my validity.

To those have any questions, feel free to inquire. I’m an open book.

However, Understand that this word isn’t something that defines me

Having the ability to love both genders is nothing short of a capability- if not a blessing

But to live my entire life with a label on my back,

I could think of nothing more debilitating

To those who love, accept, and support me;

Thank you. No other words can suffice for the gratefulness I have

to be blessed with friends like you.

To my boyfriend,

I love you. You’re a light in my life, and my rock- and right now,

That’s not going to change any time soon.

And to anyone else..

My name is Emily Marrazzo

I am 18 years old.

And as far as any of you are concerned, I am a natural blonde.

Dragon Queen

That was exceptionally written! The switch from the list-like portion to the actual stanzas was amazing. I loved that and I think you're a great poet.
