I met Time, and I asked him what I should do

I asked him what I should be.

I met Time and this is what he told me:

He said, Darling,

You have more than one try

at doing and being.

Darling, Time is on your side.

But Time, I met a girl once

Who wandered from stability

Who searched for turmoil

She looked just like me.

Time, I met another girl.

She wore her best poker face

Bet high on a flush of hearts in hand

Fell in love and didn’t want to stand

On her own anymore

Forgot about wandering and

Remembered the places he took her.

If I wasn’t mistaken

I’d say that girl was me.

I met Time, and I asked him what I should do

I asked him what I should be.

I met Time and this is what he told me:

He said, Darling,

You have more than one try

at doing and being.

Darling, Time is on your side.

But Time, I met a woman

I swear we’re the same

She held a child in her arms

Like nothing in the world could break

Such a loving embrace

But that woman, I swear I saw her

Out one day, climbing a ladder

With suitcase in hand

Couldn’t hold the child anymore.

I met Time, and I asked him what I should do

I asked him what I should be.

I met Time and this is what he told me:

He said, Darling,

You have more than one try

at doing and being.

Darling, Time is on your side.

Darling, you will meet yourself again and again

And you stay in touch with all of you, and them,

And you never say goodbye.
