I Think, Therefore I Am

Thoughts deserve more recognition

They’re the fulcrum of decisions

Thoughts transport us away from the things we fear

Sometimes they’re muddy, at other times clear

Change can’t happen without an initial thought

Thoughts are as precise as the red dot

Seemingly aimed at the head of those who think

It was once popular to be enlightened

Now its okay if you’re thoughts are thinner than skates on an ice rink

Beautiful pictures have stopped being penned

I feel discouraged that people abhor the process of thought

How can anyone hate the very thing that has brought

Us this far along the road

It would be better if thoughts were scarce because they were stowed

Away because they needed refinement

But it seems that they are nonexistent

I worry that our desire to be numb

Has made us dumb

And deaf, unable to articulate solutions

To the mental pollution

Our children are swallowing whole

This fear has turned me cold

And untrusting, despite my belief that thought can combat any issue

Be it lies, poverty, or misuse

Of resources by governments

That would rather have their people in tents

If it meant

They wouldn’t dent

The comfy pensions they’ve accrued

But thoughts today are not brewed

They are simply hatched

Then snatched

Because people love surface thinking

Using drugs or drinking

To cloud waters once crystal

Today’s thoughts are a pistol

Shooting at an elephant

Not even developed enough to recant

Thoughts use to have power and respect

Now their main purpose is to reject

Any reality deemed uncomfortable

A knife gone dull

A thought was once used to prove existence

And it received a healthy resistance

That could squash any mashup of thoughts that currently passes for complex

Thoughts used to be king, if you will, mentis rex

Today they are slaves to desire

Kindling for emotional fires

The king needs to reclaim his throne

Then maybe these problems wouldn’t be targeted by a drone
