"I told you so."

Eyes of green pierce me,

like a sword punctures a heart.

I turn, in hope he didn’t see

my emotions torn apart.

I opened my doors

and tried to be friendly,

but my mind had feared

he would only hurt me.

His eyes looked right at me,

he peered into my soul,

but I shut the curtains

before I could get bold.

My heart longed

to give him a chance,

but anxiety had decided

that he had put me in a trance.

His smile enticed my mind

for a second too many,

dropping the shield

I ran to his insincerity.

Falling for his charm was an illusion,

a glorified plunge into the pain of losing.

From mind to heart,

A horrific phrase,

When my love fell through

All I could say

“I told you so.”
