I'm a Black girl.

And I love fried chicken.
Not just any kind but the one your grandma makes after church
And also, I LOVE watermelon. If I had a choice I would probably eat that everyday until I die. I mean, put some cornbread near that and I'm set for life.

I'm a black girl.

And I'm also illiterate. Yep. Not one ounce of education in this brain. You know why? Cause I probably dropped out.

Cuz I'm lazy, right? Too lazy to get a job. So, now, I'm a thief.

I'm a black girl.

So now, I'm Ghetto. I'm loud. I'm rude. I always have an attitude. And the reason my face is always so tense is because my weave's too tight, see I don't understand that...

And because I'm black, I can't live up to the standards I set for myself. "I want to be a actress!" "Oh, what Tyler Perry movie you wanna be in?" "I want to be an actress!" "You should probably look for a more realistic career." "I want to be an actress!" "We'll entertain her wild idea for awhile, dear, but when Senior year starts, she'll have to stop."

Audra McDonald. Zoe Saldana. Billie Holiday. Anika Noni Rose. Beautiful women I look up to. Why? Because they beat the odds. They can be colored AND celebrated.

My whole life I was told to do this and that because it's what respectful young ladies did. Oops, I mean young black ladies.

Don't get it wrong, IM BLACK AND PROUD! This color on my skin is the favorite part of me. I just wished that this color on my skin didn't sometimes feel like the end of me.

Kirk Cameron said 'it is my goal to love everyone. I hate no one. Regardless of their race, religion, their proclivities, the desire of their heart and how they want to live their life and the decisions that they make'

The people I associate myself with, the dreams I pursue, the boy I want to love!?

'The Plague of racism is insidious, entering into our minds as smoothly and quietly and and invisibly as floating airborne microbes enter into our bodies to find lifelong purchase in our bloodstream.' _Maya Angelou

The love of my life is Italian. Nice olive skin, brown hair, the usual.
But because I'm of African descent and my skin complexion isn't like his, the relationship is frowned upon.

Christmas dinner, while everyone is chatting about, a 17-year-old boy is being pulled aside by his grandfather to say how the relationship is, and I quote "Morally wrong. She's just here for the money. It'll never last. She's black."

Hearing this on New Years Day, something switched within me. My resolutions which consisted of a thriving family and better wealth was now ending racial hatred and a better health. Cuz I was sick. Sick of never moving from here because I wasn't born with nice olive skin, brown hair, the usual.

I'm me. I should not be classified as a color but a person. I'm strong.

Independent. That's me. I'm confident.
I'm beautiful. But what I want is for society as me more than just a baby momma or loud nuisance.

I'm a black girl.
And I Love Fried chicken.
