I knew when I grew up

When playing videogames became less entertaining

When my friends and I stopped hanging out as much

Or when sleep became more important

 

I knew when I grew up

When I became a leader in high school

When others depended on my help

Or when my grades actually mattered to me

 

Maybe I grew up

When I knew what I wanted to be as a kid

When I learned how to make money

Or when reaching my goals became more clear

 

Maybe growing up is just a feeling

Where you understand your independence

When being alone doesn't feel scary

Or when you become your top priority

 

As kids we all felt like grown-ups

Until homework wasn't our only problem

When we have to think for ourselves

Or fitting in became less appealing

 

Maybe I grew up

When I was okay with making mistakes
