Let Me Tell You A Secret

The poems I write will bring tears to your eyes
Speaking only and always of loneliness and fear.
I suppose I simply want you to hear-to feel-
The pain that lies in my heart, dragging me down.

I see the love in your eyes, yet I still shrug and turn away
Never letting you know what I keep hidden underneath.
All I think is a secret, my hopes and fears hidden beneath
The closed doors of my soul.

At night I cry-hoping you will realize the pain I hold inside.
Somewhere deep down, I know I should open up, answer all the questions
Those that I said didn't apply to me-yet I want your help-all your love.
If I open up, will the pain go away? Will my smiles be true?

I want to be heard. I want you to see-that you are my friend-
That I've been here for you, and I want you to be here for me.
I'll take that offer-I'll share the nightmares with you-
My hand is out-take it, and the tears will be dried for us both.
