there is nothing but quiet in the night,

and i look frantically for the stars

(the same stars you can see from your windows)

as though i can feel your heartbeat in these celestial bodies.

as night grows darker, descending,

my toes twitch and my legs feel hollow and every fiber of my heart strains to feel your pulse beside me as your voice fills my hears

(the wonders of phone calls; though hundreds of miles separate our desperate hands i can hear you tell me how much you miss me),

and i understand what it means to love someone.
