Mirage

I was walking alone through the desert of life

Every step I took came with heartache and strife

I fell to my knees and could not bear go on

All the hopes and dreams I once had were gone

That's when I saw it, the sturdy tree

It spoke to my soul and beckoned for me

I pushed and I tried, just a little bit more

I found all the energy left in my core

I arrived at the tree and collapsed at its base

but as soon as I did the sand hit my face

the tree was a lie and on hot sand I laid

that my friend is the impression you've made.
