More than a Name
Location
As a child they were told to dream a better dream,
in the midst of danger, hearing their loved ones scream,
only African Americans recognized the blood deep within each root
that rope tied tight, for a split second voices mute
It hurts for a moment, bearing the agony, the pain
but this is just life, life living through a white man's name
White man's name or black man's grave?
is there really a difference? to many it was the same
i know its a shame, people mistook death as a game,
life through an Africans eyes, not easily tamed
"wait in the water", "life aint no crystal stair"
couple decades later and millions still care
fear breeds cowards, but so can power
imprisoning justice, going as far as giving them a "shower",
for speaking the truth, whether it be judicial or sacrificial,
to African American history it definitely was remembered, beneficial
keep dreaming better dreams but don't lose hope in the process,
because if you allow them to lose sight of yourself, racism won't be the only misunderstood concept
