My Dreams Not Yours

Daddy I don’t wanna be a doctor
I wanna be a teacher
Mommy I don’t wanna be a Nurse
I wanna be a clerk
Daddy I don’t wanna be a math genius
I wanna be a scientist
Mommy I don’t wanna be a record keeper
I wanna be a zoo keeper
Daddy, mommy I wanna be what I want
I have to follow my dreams
Or there is no meaning to life
My dreams are my dreams
I follow them as I please
They aren’t your dreams they are mine
Daddy I don’t wanna be an actor
I wanna be a dancer
Mommy I don’t wanna be dentist
I wanna be a mechanic
Daddy, mommy I don’t wanna be what you were
I want to be a do-er
I want to be creator of my own path
You can’t choose what I am going to be
That choice is for me
You can help me along the way
But my heart will also guide the way
My dreams are mine, not yours
Yours have already been met
While mine are still in a process
They are in the works
You had your time
Now it’s mine
