To: My Sweetheart, My Love, My Dearest Friend

To: my sweetheart, my love, my dearest friend,

My favorite day this summer was any with you,

And though I didn’t want this summer to end,

I think I’ll have fun at college, too.

While I’m away, I’ll write and I’ll send

Letters of love and of things that I do.

I’m a little sad, but my heart will mend

Because the days until I return are really quite few.

Some days are good; others are not.

I am here for you any time, any day,

Whether the weather be cold or hot,

Just say the word, and I’ll be on my way.

It will take two hours so I don’t get caught

In a speed trap by a cop who will probably say,

“You’re driving too fast; this ticket will cost a lot.”

But then I’d see you, and all would be okay.

Your smile, your, laugh, and your eyes-

Just a few of my favorite things about you.

So I suppose that it is no surprise

Why I feel the way that I do.

You saw past my mask and ridiculous lies,

Helped me overcome addiction and become someone new-

Someone less afraid to spread her wings and fly,

And maybe even someday say, “I do.”
