Hidden from the world, years spent tucked away
Did you hear me calling? Crying out your name?
Shunned and left alone, corners and dark rooms
A child with open scars, and burning wounds.

An open canvas, a world to create
Away from the anger, away from the hate.
Pencils in hand, it's time to explore
A world full of color, a place I can endure.

Beating drums, tapping tamberines
A new found voice, a passion to sing.
Words spill out, I'll let them flow
And if you choose to hear, I pray to God you'll know

See everything I have to offer? See everything I have to gain?
What more do I have to prove? What more do you have to stain?
Splash black on my canvas, go ahead and put me down
You brought me into this world, just try and take me out.

Take my colors, steal my light
Put me in the dark, lock me up tight.
Your act isn't a secret, everyone will soon see
The kind of person you are, and the person you pretend to be.

Backs turned, life goes on
I once was weak, now I'm strong.
Watch me draw, hear me sing
This is my talent, and this is my dream...

An open canvas, a world to create
Away from the anger, away from the hate.
Pencils in hand, it's time to explore
A world full of color, a place I can endure.
