New Beginnings

After a long dreary night, I awake to the sound of

raindrops, earth’s tears, racing freely to the ground.

Outside my bedroom window the fragile

droplets of water ski across the pane’s glass.

drip, drop, drip,

one drop after another,

each drop seems to tell its own story,

stories of passion, glory, sorrow, and discontent.

It almost feels as if I can embrace

the black and white world all at once,

and acknowledge that the delicate creations of life

are not perfect,

just trapped in an unknown world.

However, it is not until that last raindrop falls

that my thoughts of yesterday and yesteryear

gently fade away.

Allowing the sun to come out

to say hello,

the birds to sing a song,

and vibrant colors to fill in the vivid lines

of this place we call earth.

It is at that moment I will

become assured and know that we all have a purpose in life

and are given new beginnings to fulfill it.
