Nobody Knows

I’m sittin’ at my home, mindin’ my own biz,
when a group of Men surrounded and shackled, myself, my Woman, and kids.
Because I was taken by surprise, unfortunately mine eyes see,
one of my Brothers being slain, while tryin’ to protect his family.

We were bound neck to neck, marched to the coast, feeling the whip
Where a bunch of little boats were waiting, to take us to a big ship.
Once aboard we were packed, like sardines in a can.
To be victims of a sick way of life, waiting on another land.

I lost the body-count at 400, not sure, could’ve been more;
But a week later, a third had died, and had been thrown overboard.
We were placed in little cells, separated – Men, Women and kids.
While crowds eagerly gathered, for the auctions to offer their bids.

I watched my wife stripped naked, after they shoved her on the stage.
She was sold before myself. My kids sold according to their age.
That was 50 years ago, excuse me. My mind comes and goes.
I’ve asked what became of my family; but unfortunately, ‘nobody knows’.
