Ostrich

Job 39:13-17

13 “The wings of the ostrich wave proudly,
But are her wings and pinions like the kindly stork’s?
14 For she leaves her eggs on the ground,
And warms them in the dust;
15 She forgets that a foot may crush them,
Or that a wild beast may break them.
16 She treats her young harshly, as though they were not hers;
Her labor is in vain, without concern,
17 Because God deprived her of wisdom,
And did not endow her with understanding.

Satire: religiousness vs Godliness

The ostrich

What do I have in common with this strange bird?

It must be in disposition more than the “good” looks

When I see the poor and needy or the ones in hurt

I’ll try to help them by giving them some good books

As in likeness of a bird I’m more like a peacock

Filled with vanity and pride never getting off the ground

I’ll hang on to what I’ve got and keep under lock

Because God makes me prosper with whatever is found

With my head stuck in the sand I’ll show my best part

I rather eat the gravel like the folks wandering in pleasure

All what comes out then are my words sounding like farts

Because my daily lack in action shows the real measure

And so I go day by day trying to change the world

I tell folks everywhere what it is like being “saved”

So I travel on to nowhere to talk about “The Great Pearl”

The One I discovered and now keep it locked in my safe

Everything I touch becomes my personal possession

“God takes care of them who’ll take care of themselves”

As my religiousness grows and becomes an obsession

And God and Godliness sit permanently on my shelf

“You can’t love really anyone unless loving yourself first”

I travel all around the globe to tell folks how to live

I don’t even sense the need here as I with destiny flirt

And then back home again I prepare for my next trip
