Out of Sync

I used to know you so well

You were a part of me

You’d braid my hair sometimes

We’d partner up in PE

So I keep wondering

Gosh, what happened in between?

Can walls rise high enough

And storms come crashing violent

To separate once close friends

Why do these even exist?

And before I realize it

You're now completely different

Once a girl we barely knew

Somebody from a far town

I'm looking up at you now

Wearing the homecoming crown

Yet we’re both pieced-together train wrecks

Shadows of our former selves

Hate to admit it

That we’re farther than we started out

I know I’ll never guess

What it was I didn’t say

‘Cause if I knew

I wouldn't be so shy today.
