The Posterity of an American Slave?

Thus was born the U-S of A?

Thus began my complete dismay.

To think that you fought for us to be free,

When all you want to do is enslave me.

The snap of the whip upon my back,

And the sun so hot my skin begins to crack.

With the rough cotton in my hands,

You force my son into your demands.

So what revolution do you speak of?

What's the solution that I hear of?

Here I am destined to die,

While you sit around eating your sweet pumpkin pie.

Force to work, my brothers and I struggle.

If I stop, I'll for sure get the buckle.

But what is this I'm beginning to see?

Is that a white man? Standing up for me?

No, no white man would ever show mercy;

This will become quite a controversy.

Will brother fight brother for this reason?

Even though they had fought for freedom?

This is not the great U-S of A.

Don't you see what I am trying to convey?

If my life is destined to end as a slave,

Fighting for freedom, I will go to the grave.
