I pretend not to care
About anything at all
Not to quite be in-step
With the rest of the world
Pretend to be tough
And hardcore
Pretend to want to be different
To not want to be like
Everyone else

Pretend to be that
Not-so-average
Teenage girl
Who never really grew up
The rebellious girl with a sweet side
The seemingly shy butterfly
Trying so hard to get by

Truth is
I am all these things
I fit all the stereotypes of teenage female
The fact that I wrote this poem
Proves it

And girls
As much as you don't want
To admit it
As different
As YOU THINK
You are
You're all these things too
You're a pretender
Just like me
