On the Shore of a Frozen Lake (based on The Snow Queen)

her fingers scratch against the leaf

singing over its veins

glass blue ice shards shimmer behind her.

when he came next to her,

she glanced at him with lacey amusement

and he loved at her, but she sashayed

away the sandstone icicles watching her go

and the lake arched on the horizon

murmuring and tracing her path.
