Silence

There’s a suffocation,

condemnation,

when all you hear are foul thoughts.

To hear them all destroying you,

despite all that you’ve sought.

Louder, louder,

yes they roar.

They drown my pleas,

please no more.

The ground is shaking,

walls they crack.

Is everyone deaf?

I envy that.

Plugs in,

world out.

Silenced are those screams and shouts.

I know no failure,

I know no pain.

I have my scars,

but from here I gain.

The sounds of my generation,

no longer are my dreams far flung.

I can’t recite the periodic table,

but I have lyrics seared upon my tongue.

There was a suffocation,

condemnation,

echoing in a mind filled with violence.

Now there are plugs of sanity,

though there is sound,

I bask in silence.
