Silence

Silence

Heart wrenching silence

So silent I can hear my thoughts

Why do I refuse to speak?

Why do I fear speaking?

Am I afraid to talk or afraid to be heard?

Am I afraid that no one will listen or that I won’t listen to myself?

A warzone of fear, hidden in heart wrenching silence

Feelings held inside, swept under the rug

Completely ignored, made irrelevant

A dilemma a mile long

All I can rely on is this one solution

Poetry

The beautiful poetry

My heart lies in this solution I simply call poetry

I feel myself being heard

Not by others but actually by myself

I feel a relief

I can breathe

The silence stops

A crowd gathers

They stare and listen

They want to hear me

They want to hear what I’ve been hiding

Hiding in the shadows

They want to hear my voice

They want to cease the silence

And just like that, I have escaped

Escaped my silent prison

I must show my appreciation

That appreciation that I can only give to my love

My release

My savior
