Sleep

It grins knowingly, as if it were the Cheshire Cat
wily and full of guile
It pounces
It tugs at your eyelids, puts a weight on your muscles
Shuts down your brain, it's like a drug

It smiles sweetly
points to your soft pillows
It's voice ever melodic
Like a muse, it weaves tales of idyllic dreams
Whispers in your ears
urging you to succumb, to lie down, rest your eyes for a moment
for just a moment
for just a moment...
for...just...one...little...

Your eyes flutter open, and the whole day has gone away
while you basked innocently in sleep's clutches
