slumber

i fell asleep to the sound

of your voice

and a hail of bullets

and a rain of noise

and even though

i slip into

my eternal dream

alone

i dream of you

as i remember

and what was

and what could've been

ours

i fell asleep to the sight of

your red red hair

and the worry in your eyes

and your look of despair

and even though

i can hear my name

i still walk

alone

i think of you

as i walk forever

between the lines

of light and

death

i fell asleep to the taste

of my own blood

and a slow darkness

and a rushing flood

and even though

the days pass

i still wait

alone

i imagine us

as i struggle to wake

treading water in the middle

of an ocean tinged

black

i woke up to the sight of

sunlight through the window

and your smile

bright like snow

and even though

my sleep's been long

all i can think is

"i'm not

alone"
