The Story of Tori

What’s that you’re eating?

“A torus”

It looks like a doughnut to me

“Is not the Caspian Sea a body of water?

Is not food the same as fodder?”

Why all of the exuberant hyperbole?

“Because, you really don’t see”

See what, my dear sir, what is it I miss?

“Quite a bit, young lad, and just a splash more than a tad”

Why do you make all of these metaphors, Mr. Mad?

“Why is it you must question me, is what I’m saying so bad?”

All because you’re being authoritative, just like my dad

“Dear boy, let’s get this straight, tell me, is authority something you hate?”

Not even a smidgen, Mr. Mean, don’t you dare look down on me

“It’s always the stubborn ones that are so keen”

What is a torus, anyway?

“It is a mathematical concept, my dear boy. It is a partial explanation of the world.”

So, that’s how the world is unfurled?

“That is quite true, in fact. This is the way that knowledge is accrued.”
